podiobooks.com
you don't have to have an ipod to use this service, but it is
easier. If your home computer can play mp3s you can download these
books in serialized form. Give it a try. Somw of them are really
terrific.
www.thisibelieve.org
anyone who listens to NPR will recognize this series. I submitted
an essay to them and it is now on the This I Believe website.
Go to "search the database" and put in last name: wright
Keyword: serendipity. After you read mine, think about writing
one of your own.
bookcrossing.com
This is a website dedicated to setting books free and then following
their travels in the wild. You register a book and get an identification
number for it. Then you affix a label explaining that it is a
free book (not a lost book) and leave it somewhere public for
someone to pick up. The label keeps the book from being resold
and allows the finder to note the books progress on bookcrossing.com.
Mythopoetica
Mythopoetica is a site, not surprisingly, centered around discussions of myths both classical and
contemporary and discussions of what myths are and if/why they are important to us today.
SurLaLune
This is a fascinating chat room focused on fairy tales new and old. It also offers a fairy tale writers group.
Interstitial
Art
at www.endicott-studio.com The "interstitial arts" refers to those works of art in any field
that exist on the borders, not quite fitting in to the more well defined genres.
netflix.com
If you have a DVD player, this is the sight to satisfy your movie
cravings. They seem to have everything you can think of. You can
have up to 3 dvds at any time (more if your willing to pay more
than the $20 a month basic charge) When you are finished watching
one, mail it back (they arrive in their prepaid mailers) and netflix
sends you the next film on your list. We love this place! Who
needs television when you have netflix?
URL: http://www.theartsdirectory.net
This is a very well done directory of arts related sites. Much
better organized than most. Worth a visit.
www.justparents.com
This is a little different from my usual suggestions, but they
have some interesting books on their site.
